The Scottish Feltmakers will be at the Midwest Felting Symposium. Before that, they can be seen at the Seippel Homestead and Center for the Arts in Beaver Dam April 27 - June 8, under the name "Fabric of Life".

We are all members of The International Feltmakers Association - formed in 1984 to promote the work of artists, craftspeople and designers in the ancient art of feltmaking. Since then there has been a great resurgence of involvement in the subject. In Scotland we have 70 members whose interests range from the historical and anthropological aspects of felt, to the use of a variety of techniques that demonstrate its potential and application to a wide range of products, fulfilling many functions. We have extended the boundaries of ancient traditions by adapting them to modern society.
We have constructed our own "Story Telling Yurt". The frame, 9ft high and 14ft in diameter, was made from a Scottish Ash tree and it has a pictorial felt cover. For the last 10 years, this has traveled to many places where creative workshops, exhibitions and story telling take place.
Many members have exhibited at home and abroad and we have several highly respected tutors.
We have held numerous exhibitions here in Scotland.
Seven members traveled to Mongolia in 2006 - a hands-on project working and living with herders, sharing in their lifestyles and learning traditional felting techniques. We have a DVD of this amazing journey. We continue to work in partnership with a Mongolian organization, promoting traditional crafts.
Many of our members are willing to undertake commissions and residencies and to run workshops. Several have their own business with on-line sales worldwide.
At present we are planning the 2009 I.F.A. AGM and Conference to be held in a wonderful castle on the shores of Loch Lomond.
