#901: Raw Felted Fleece
by Becky Utecht
Create a humane* felted “sheepskin” using a raw (unwashed) fleece. Students can bring a fleece from their favorite sheep or a purchased fleece to create a luxuriously warm and woolly lap blanket, couch throw, wall hanging, or rug. We will explore various fleece types and discuss their most appropriate use. Shepherds and fiber lovers alike will appreciate the efficiency of washing and felting the fleece all at the same time. Students should have an understanding of the felting process and the physical ability to roll and full a wet fleece. Students can expect to get wet and smell a bit sheepy. * Humane because the sheep doesn’t have to give its life for this project, just its fleece.
